The Story Of Ayyub In The Quran For Kids

The story of Ayyub in the Quran for kids carries one of the most beautiful lessons about patience and trust in Allah. When everything seemed to be taken away, Prophet Ayyub (peace be upon him) never stopped believing that Allah’s mercy was near.

If your child loves hearing stories like this one, our Quran Tafseer for Kids at Kids Learning Quran Academy course helps them understand the meaning behind every verse Prophet Ayyub recited to Allah.

Allah Blessed Prophet Ayyub Before His Trial

Long before his trial started, the story of Ayyub in the Quran began with a home full of blessings. Prophet Ayyub’s family tree reached back to Prophet Ishaq, the son of Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon them both.

Scholars say he lived sometime between the times of Prophet Yusuf and Prophet Musa, peace be upon them.

Ayyub had many animals, wide land, and a large, happy family. He was known for his generosity and his constant gratitude to Allah. He never forgot who had given him all these gifts.

Allah also blessed him with fourteen children, seven daughters and seven sons, who brought him joy and stood by him in every good deed.

He taught them to remember that Allah watches every step and every word, and he was always grateful, sensing that his happiness came only from Allah’s kindness.

He was known for his generosity and his constant gratitude to Allah. He never forgot who had given him all these gifts.

Allah Tested Prophet Ayyub With Severe Hardship

One day, everything changed. Allah tested Prophet Ayyub in ways that touched his wealth, his children, and his own body. His animals and land were gone. His health grew weak, and sickness stayed with him for many long years.

Through it all, Ayyub’s heart never wavered. He kept praising Allah just as he had done in easier days. Nothing about his faith in Allah’s wisdom ever changed.

Sickness came last. Sores and wounds spread across his entire body, and the illness stayed with him for many long years. His health grew so weak that even close acquaintances began to stay away, unable to bear being near him.

How Prophet Ayyub’s Wife Supported Him Through His Trial

Prophet Ayyub’s wife stayed close through every hard day, for eighteen long years, never once turning away.

Many relatives and neighbors kept their distance, but she worked hard to earn money so she could feed him and care for him herself, tending to him with the same gentleness and devotion she had shown before the trial began.

Even his closest friends wondered, in their own hearts, why the trial had lasted so long. But Ayyub simply trusted that Allah knew best, and he never complained about what he could not understand.

Prophet Ayyub Turned to Allah With Dua

When the trial felt heaviest, Prophet Ayyub called out to Allah with a dua that has comforted hearts ever since. He said:

وَأَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

Wa Ayyuba idh nada rabbahu anni massaniyad-durru wa anta arhamur-rahimeen

“And [mention] Ayyub, when he called to his Lord, ‘Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.'” (Al-Anbiya 21:83)

He did not ask for anything except Allah’s mercy. He simply told Allah how he felt, and he trusted Allah to answer.

Before this moment, he had told himself he felt too shy to ask Allah to lift his suffering, since he had enjoyed eighty years of comfort and had only endured seven years of hardship in comparison, yet in the end, he still turned to Allah, certain that his Lord’s mercy was greater than any hesitation.

If your child ever wonders what a dua really means or how to say one properly, our Quranic Arabic Course for Kids teaches the words and their meanings side by side, so prayers feel personal, not just memorized sounds.

Allah Healed Prophet Ayyub

Allah answered right away and commanded Prophet Ayyub to strike the ground with his foot. The Quran tells us:

ارْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ هَٰذَا مُغْتَسَلٌ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ

Urkud birijlika hadha mughtasalun baridun wa sharab

“Strike [the ground] with your foot; this is a spring for a cool bath and drink.” (Sad 38:42)

Allah gave Ayyub two springs of water from the ground, and each one served a different purpose: one to bathe in, washing away every trace of illness from his body, and one to drink from, refreshing him from within.

By the time he finished, Ayyub was completely well again, in body and in spirit, his strength and youthful vigor returned as though the years of sickness had never touched him.

When his wife came home and saw a strong, healthy stranger standing there, she did not recognize him until he called her by name. Realizing it was her husband, restored and whole again, she rushed to him overwhelmed with joy.

Prophet Ayyub Responded to Allah’s Blessings With Gratitude

Some time later, golden locusts fell on Prophet Ayyub while he was bathing near his home. He began gathering them quickly into his garment.

Allah asked him, “O Ayyub, did I not make you rich?” he said, “Yes, O Lord, but I cannot do without Your blessing.” This beautiful moment is recorded in (Sahih al-Bukhari: 409).

Even after everything he had been through, Ayyub’s first response to a gift was gratitude, not greed.

Allah Restored Prophet Ayyub’s Family and Blessings

After the trial ended, Allah returned Prophet Ayyub’s family and blessed him with even more than before. This part of the story of Ayyub in the Quran shows how Allah rewards patience with even greater mercy.

His wife’s youth was renewed, and, as reported from Ibn Abbas, Allah blessed them with twenty-six sons.

Allah also brought back to life all the children and servants who had been lost, along with an equal number more, and restored his wealth doubled and blessed beyond what it had been before, a reminder and a lesson for those who reflect.

Before his healing, Ayyub had once promised, out of frustration, to strike his devoted wife if he ever recovered, after she had unknowingly repeated words that came from Iblees’s trickery.

Allah showed him a gentle way to keep his word without harming her: to take a small bundle of a hundred thin twigs and strike her with it only once, so his oath was fulfilled and his wife was spared any pain.
